Formula
The calculator reads the whole expression and applies the standard order of operations (often remembered as BODMAS or PEMDAS):
- Brackets
- Powers
- Multiplication and division, left to right
- Addition and subtraction, left to right
A percent sign after a number added to or subtracted from another number works the way a shop calculator does: 200 + 10% = 220.
Examples
- Shopping total: 3 × 45 + 2 × 120 = 135 + 240 = 375.
- Splitting a bill: 1,860 ÷ 4 = 465 each.
- Adding 15%: 80 + 15% = 80 + 12 = 92.
Frequently asked questions
What order does the calculator follow?
It follows the standard order of operations: brackets first, then powers, then multiplication and division from left to right, then addition and subtraction. So 2 + 3 × 4 = 14, not 20.
Can I use my keyboard?
Yes. Type digits and + − * / ( ) directly into the display, press Enter for the result and Escape to clear.
Why does 10 ÷ 3 show so many digits?
Results are shown to about 14 significant digits so you can round them yourself. Use the Rounding Calculator if you need a fixed number of decimal places.
