How to use the Payment Processing Fee Calculator

  1. Choose whether you know the payment or the amount you want to receive.
  2. Enter the amount and your provider’s percentage and fixed fee.
  3. Press Calculate.

Formula

Fee = amount × rate + fixed fee

Amount to charge = (amount to receive + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate)

Examples

  • 100 at 2.9% + 0.30: fee 3.20, you receive 96.80.
  • To receive 100: charge (100.30) ÷ 0.971 = 103.30.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just add 2.9% to the price?

Because the fee is also charged on the extra you add. Dividing by (1 − rate) accounts for that.

Can I pass fees to customers?

Surcharging rules differ by country and card network. Check the rules that apply to you before adding a card fee.
